What's Next for TRIO Funding?

December 11, 2016

On December 9, the House and Senate passed a Continuing Resolution or "CR" that will level-fund all government programs through April 28, 2017. Although Congress has essentially finished its work for 2016, there are several things you now can do to advocate for TRIO's chances for a funding increase next year!

  • Congratulate your Member of Congress on their election victory. Use this sample letter Document is available for download (.doc) to send a quick note to your Member of Congress congratulating him or her on their election, introducing yourself and your TRIO program and establishing an open invitation to visit your TRIO program in the near future.

  • Learn about your newly elected Member of Congress! Next year, approximately 60 new legislators will arrive in Washington, DC to serve in the House and Senate for the first time. Now is the right time to learn as much as you can about them. If you work in a State or District that will be represented by a new legislator in the 115th Session of Congress, please be on the lookout for an email from the COE Public Policy team this week with biographical information about your new representatives as well as important information about how you can begin cultivating relationships with them once they assume office in January.

  • Make plans to attend COE's 2017 Policy Seminar, "Now More Than Ever." This event will take place Sunday, March 19, through Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at the Hyatt Regency on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. Registration is currently available online via the COE website. As the conference theme suggests, your voice must be heard now more than ever.

If you have any questions or concerns about contacting your Members of Congress or making plans for the 2017 Policy Seminar, please contact Kimberly Jones (kimberly.jones@coenet.us) or Selene Ceja (selene.ceja@coenet.us) by the e-mail addressed provided or via phone at (202) 347-7430.
