The Trump Administration today called for the elimination of the Federal TRIO Programs ("TRIO"), in the president's proposed Fiscal Year 2019 budget. TRIO, for more than 50 years, has helped the country's low-income, first-generation students escape poverty through higher education with critical college access and preparation that is key to college success.
"This budget proposal is an attack on low-income, first-generation students and abandons our nation's commitment to grant each aspiring, hard-working student a fair chance at success," stated Maureen Hoyler, President of the Council for Opportunity in Education. "It is vital that every student is given an opportunity to realize their full potential and contribute. We will work with our supporters on Capitol Hill to defeat this proposal."
